FIRST FEMALE MILITARY PILOT OF BANGLADESH IN BANGLADESH AIR FORCE

Jessore, December 17: Bangladesh Air Force, defender of our sky, has set a milestone by commencing flying training of first female military pilots in the history of Bangladesh. As women constitute half our population, overall socio-economic development of Bangladesh depends on ensuring equal participation of women in every sector. In this context, BAF was pioneer to induct female officer in armed forces in 2000. Since then female officers of BAF have been able to establish their mark of sincerity, hard work and professionalism in different spheres of BAF activities including United Nations Peacekeeping Mission. In the process, BAF has set a milestone by deciding to include female pilots in GD (P) branch for the first time in Bangladesh. Considering professional risks and challenges for being a combat pilot, after necessary selection process, BAF selected two female officers: Fight Lieutenant Nayma Haque and Flying Officer Tamanna-E-Lutfy for basic helicopter conversion flying training in Bell-206 helicopter in 18 Squadron of BAF Base Bir Sreshto Matiur Rahman, Jessore. In the process, two female officers started their ground training on 03 August 2014 and on successful completion of ground training, they started their flying training on 23 September 2014. After approximate 25:00 hours of training, they have been able to fly solo flights successfully. Today, Wednesday (17-12-2014) both the female pilots have successfully completed initial phase of primary helicopter flying training which is very important to become a helicopter pilot. Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Muhammad Enamul Bari congratulated those two female pilots and thanked all concern. After completion of their solo flight Air Officer Commanding of BAF Base Bir Sreshto Matiur Rahman Air Commodore M Sayed Hossain awarded Squadron Badge on their cover-all. After completion of 65:00 hours of Basic Helicopter Conversion training, they will perform duties in different operational squadron of BAF. This historical achievement of BAF will be considered as a milestone in the history of Bangladesh Armed Forces. The epoch -making event of BAF will not only play a vital role to implement Government's pledges in woman empowerment but also introduce a new era in advancement of women in Bangladesh.
